Join our team!
We are always looking for new talented members to join our team! Applications considered from undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral and research fellows with expertise in a wide range of disciplines such as genetics, cellular and molecular biology, stem cells, cardiovascular biology, bioinformatics, and biochemistry.
Prospective graduate students:
Please refer to Graduate Programs in Biomedical Engineering and Graduate Biomedical Sciences programs (BSB, CANB, CMDB, GGB, or others) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. If you are interested to join us, please directly email Dr. Yang Zhou (yangzhou@uab.edu) for the rotation in the lab.
Prospective undergraduate students:
We are accepting undergraduate research assistants, who are motivated and eager to gain research experience for their future career development. Training will be provided by senior lab members. A basic understanding of biology is required. The applicant should send your CV and a cover letter indicating your research experience, career goal, and time commitment to Dr. Yang Zhou (yangzhou@uab.edu) for the potential opportunity.
Research technician:
We are recruiting a research technician with expertise in molecular cloning, cell culture and or animal handling. The candidate is expected to have the knowledge of laboratory safety and regulatory requirements, excellent oral communication skills, and the ability to facilitate lab maintenance and management. Interested applicants should submit a CV, contact information for 3 references, and a letter describing your prior research experience and interests to Dr. Yang Zhou (yangzhou@uab.edu).
Opening: Postdoctoral Research Fellow
We are seeking for highly motivated, passionate and collaborative postdoctoral research fellows to join our team. We utilize a combination of genetics, bioinformatics, biochemistry and microscope approaches, and stem cell techniques to investigate the molecular mechanisms that define cardiac lineage identity focusing on transcription factors and chromatin regulation. We are interested in the fundamental mechanisms underlying heart regeneration as well as the development of therapeutic strategies for heart diseases. Our research is supported by NIH, American Heart Association (AHA) and internal start-up funding. Interested candidates are encouraged to read our recent publications: Cell stem cell 2019, 25 (1), 149-164. e9; Circulation 2020, 141 (21), 1720-1723; Nature 2017, 551 (7678), 100-104; Cell reports 2017, 20 (13), 3014-3024; Cell stem cell 2016, 18 (3), 382-395; Cancer cell 2016, 30 (1), 92-107.
Requirements:
Candidates with diverse research backgrounds are welcome to apply. A Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics or any other related field is recommended. Prior research experience in stem cell or cardiovascular biology and next-generation sequencing analysis is highly desired. Stipend will be commensurate with experience.
How to apply:
Please email a cover letter with a brief description of your research background and interests along with your CV and contact information of three references to Dr. Yang Zhou (yangzhou@uab.edu).
