Current Lab Members
Anteneh Getachew Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Scholar
Anteneh G. received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular biology from Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He joined the Zhou lab on December 1st, 2022. His research work focuses on direct cardiac reprogramming and understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate this process. Particular emphasis on CRISPR-based approaches to identify potential transcriptional and epigenetic factors involved during the transdifferentiation of fibroblast cells into induced cardiomyocytes (iCMs).
Meimei Wang
Graduate Student
Meimei, a graduate trainee in the GBS program. One of her research is investigating the function of ELMSAN1 in direct cardiac reprogramming, funded by an AHA predoctoral fellowship. Another current study focuses on exploring the underlying mechanism of heart diseases based on the ELMSAN1 conditional knocking out genetic mice model.
Rachana Kuthuru
Undergraduate Student
UAB, School of Public Health, UAB Honors College-Personalized Pathway
William Peng
High School Student
William is a high school junior in the Math and Science Department of the Alabama School of Fine Arts. He joined the Zhou lab in July 2023 during his dual-enrollment in organic chemistry at UAB. His research work focuses on the roles of long noncoding RNA and epigenetic regulation in direct cardiac reprogramming.
